| Favourite memory with your Canine Athlete |
My favourite sporting memory is gaining first place in both of the classes we entered at only our second obedience show. My favourite memory with Lunar in general is when we hiked up Yr Wyddfa. I was exhausted by the time we made it back down, but she could have easily scaled the mountain again! |

I'm very much a newcomer to dog sports, having only started competing in 2025. I have a background in training assistance dogs and, although many of those skills translate over to sports, it's been quite the learning curve. Lunar is very much a "jack of all trades" type dog and no matter what she does, she will always give it her all. She started off as my assistance dog before taking a well deserved early retirement a few months ago. I think over the years we've tried every sport at least once, from flyball and canicross to lure coursing and gundog work. The sports we now compete in are ones that both Lunar and I enjoy. They're challenging and really varied, comprising of several different disciplines to master. Tracking and nose work elements are probably my favourite to train; you need to learn to take a backseat and have total trust in your dog's abilities and your skills at reading them. There has definitely been more than one occasion where I've ruined a track that Lunar was navigating well, and I sometimes think she would trade me in for a different handler if she could! |
