Supporting cats: big and small

We are delighted to announce our partnership with The Big Cat Sanctuary.

Antinol® x The Big Cat Sanctuary

In June 2023, The Big Cat Sanctuary started feeding Antinol® to eighteen of the older cats in their collection (aged 8 and above) to support their mobility. Mobility is a big concern for all mature cats (big and little) but of even more concern for mature cats living in captivity.

When we learned the BCS were delighted with the results of feeding Antinol®, we went to visit them and before long we knew there was so much more we could do to help them and the big cats in their care, as well as big cats overseas.

“We are so happy to have partnered with VetzPetz. The welfare of our cats at The Big Cat Sanctuary is always at the forefront of our minds. With Antinol® we are excited to be able to support their ongoing wellness and continue to give them the best care.”

The mobility challenges of big cats in captivity

  • Big cats develop joint issues just like your domestic cats at home
  • A longer lifespan in captivity means big cats are more likely to develop joint issues because they are allowed to age in a safe environment
  • Amur Leopards, Asiatic Lions and Jaguars are most commonly affected
  • Better understanding of enrichment and methods of feeding have improved the mobility of big cats in captivity

Big cats need a big boost

A diet rich in Essential Fatty Acids (including Omega 3 & Omega 6) is very important to feline health and wellbeing but especially so when those felines are big and living in captivity.

For the felines at The Big Cat Sanctuary, these EFA’s are vital in maintaining their mobility and flexibility by supporting their joint health, as well as nourishing their skin and conditioning their coat.

The Big Cat Sanctuary have a specially formulated diet for their big cats, designed by zoological nutritionists and species appropriate - and have added Antinol® in to give their cats a they cannot receive from their diet alone.

It’s why supplements have a role to play no matter the specie, no matter the size.

About The Big Cat Sanctuary PROTECTION IS THEIR PASSION

The Big Cat Sanctuary is a charity in Kent dedicated to the conservation of wild cats. Founded in the year 2000, the Sanctuary is home to around 40 cats spanning 12 different species, 11 of which are classed as more than vulnerable to the risk of extinction on the IUCN red list. These include African and Asiatic Lions, Sumatran Tigers, Amur Tigers, Snow Leopards, Amur Leopards, Jaguars and many more.

They are proud to have such a diverse collection of wild cats which includes the largest, the most endangered and the smallest cats in the world.

The BCS like us believe every cat (big or little) deserves to have their best day, every day.

Because their cats, are OUR cats.

A bigger role to play

The Big Cat Sanctuary is dedicated to the conservation of wild cats, with the objectives of welfare, breeding, education and conservation. The initiatives undertaken are a vital part in saving some of the planet’s most endangered and iconic species from extinction.

Welfare

They endeavour to provide the most fulfilled life in captivity for all our resident cats, stimulating them both mentally and physically. Ensuring our cats receive excellent care, a varied diet and different sources of enrichment, whilst maintaining a peaceful environment and not compromising the tranquillity of the cats within the Sanctuary.

Breeding

By contributing to the co-ordinated global breeding programmes they are helping to maintain genetic diversity within the captive population of the most endangered felid species. Should it become viable, in the future cats bred in captivity may be used to supplement existing populations in the wild.

Education

They believe that education is key to protecting endangered cats and that by bringing conservation awareness into schools and communities they can help to create a future not only for big cats but all wildlife and the ecosystems on which they depend.

Conservation

They are a charity exclusively dedicated to the conservation of our planet’s wild cats. They are proud to be making partnerships and collaborating with frontline conservation organisations to fund and support holistic conservation initiatives, all helping to protect some of the most endangered cats in the world from extinction.

How we are helping

We wanted to provide a partnership that offered The Big Cat Sanctuary support on many levels:

Supply of Antinol:

We are providing Antinol® to these beautiful big cats at a special rate ensuring fundraising by the BCS goes directly to the cats’ care.

Fuelling donations:

We have provided the BCS with a special code BCSSENTME so that every purchase made of Antinol® using the code will result in a donation of 10% of the order value going direct to the Big Cat Sanctuary. This continues in perpetuity.

How you can help

Every time you support your little big cat at home by buying Antinol® and using the code BCSSENTME, you will be supporting some of the most endangered feline species in the world.
